Present tenses may be one of the most popular tenses in English because people use it every day. They can use present tenses to talk about what is happening right now or their routines. Present tenses include present simple, present continuous, present perfect, and present perfect continuous. Present simple tense can be used to talk about habitual or routine actions, facts, commentaries, directions and instructions, newspaper headlines, present stories, and historical sequence. People use present continuous tense when they want to talk about an action that is in progress at the time of speaking, temporary action that is not necessarily in progress at the time of speaking, emphasize very frequent actions, background events in a present story, and a regular action around a point of time. Present perfect can be used to talk about finished actions that happened at an indefinite time, completed past actions carried out in an unfinished time period at the time of speaking, something which began in the past and is still true now, and past actions with present results. Present perfect continuous is to communicate an incomplete and ongoing activity and describe a recently finished activity which has a present result.
