Why are Teachers Important in the Academe? In any school institution, teachers are known to be the third parent of students that guides, teaches, promotes and encourage them to reach their fullest potential. There are various roles that teachers take when they are inside the school that helps children be equipped, prepared and improve their skills to become competent and successful in their future endeavours. Formerly, the traditional role of teachers were focused on executing classroom instructions, conduct presentations, prepare lesson plans, check papers and compute within every subject. They are tasked to focus on honing the overall understanding of the students within particular subjects and to build their knowledge and skills. However, in today’s time teachers play a very significant part within the development of child especially in their early stages of learning. Teaching is currently considered as one of the most challenging yet fulfilling profession in the world that holds greater responsibility, since they are the individuals who are given a chance to form and educate the next generation towards progressive development. Their role varies depending on the student’s needs, environment and situation they experience. In the modern learning organizations, they may be seen being a mentor, assessor, planner, developer, bookkeepers, counselor, disciplinarian, organizer of curriculum, judge, community leader and many others. These are only few of the minor and major responsibilities they have to become effective and efficient educators. In the academe, the roles of the teachers are imperative to maintain a healthy and proficient environment towards positive school image and learning experience of students. Specifically, they cannot just teach a lesson and proceed to the next topic, they must also learn to assess and identify areas in which students are weak and needs to be polished. This assessment can be done through various methods such as assignments, quizzes, tests and even classroom observations. In this way, they may find other strategies to help their students understand the lesson. They also need to make concrete lesson plans and revise if needed, this will help them determine topics that needs to be discussed and for them to have a backup plan in case such plans doesn’t work with their students. Due to the technological advancement, they also need to learn and used it to catch up with their students and gather their attention and promote convenience. Some of them use PowerPoint presentations, conduct virtual assignments and worksheets to implement better strategies in teaching. Attending seminars and workshops are also additional actions they do to gather additional knowledge that they can share within their classroom instructions. However, the modern teaching profession is also multifaceted; they also focus on honing their student’s behaviors, attitudes and inspire them to become valuable members of the society. Every day they are challenged to exercise their critical thinking, patience, creativeness and communication skills to develop their diverse student’s talents and intellect. Without the presence of teachers in the academe, schools cannot provide the education that student’s need. Teachers must learn to adapt, pay attention to trends and advances and perform well in order to catch up with the global change within institutions since as based on researches, the attention span of students are getting shorter through time. Also, a great teacher promotes innovation across all layers of learning community. An effective contemporary educator views the school as a universal institution and must see on how they make most out of all policy in order to uphold commendable education, student wisdom, and achievement practices. Hence, student’s needs invariable guidance and encouragement to improve, teachers must also have deference to risk-taking and failure, and they must see it as a first effort in learning. Teachers must not state any negative comments but provide appreciation and give a room towards improvement. Teachers are the heart and backbone of any educational institution and without them; we cannot gain the knowledge we need and their roles are interchangeable and never static. They are the reason why there are professionals in the world and we must acknowledge the help they gave to produce individuals who are helping us within our society such as doctors, lawyers, technicians and others. Hence, they represent enviable behaviors and attitudes towards children such as poise and good manners, stability and a sense of calmness. They also put into practice concord and read patterns of development to improved their students and make essential recommendation and suggestions to parents. Regardless of the role they assume, they are vital since they shape the culture of our classrooms and improve student learning. The significance of the roles taken by teachers in the academe is acknowledged by the society and the government must provide policies that will cater their needs as well. Being a teacher is a very challenging and complex work, it really takes a lot of courage and skills to be effective and efficient, with this, this profession is indeed more of passion and professionalism. In today’s epoch, educational institutions must maintain with applicable technological advances in order to be flourishing in producing students that can prosper in the ever-changing world. Consequently, the role of the teacher in modern learning organizations desires not to be disregarded and must be given full attention by every country to give out the nothing but the best. They require managing not only the unambiguous substance that students have to gain knowledge of but also the preeminent and appropriate strategies, methods and tools to be used to guarantee great learning experience, despite the fact that obeying to governmental rules and national standards. To apply this, they have to reflect differently, be deliberate, encourage modernization, and be on familiar terms with the system, acknowledge disappointment and provide solutions, support a wisdom culture, and on top of all, put the student and their learning needs at the mind and spirit of their education undertaking.
