Teaching one to one is a great method of teaching for both the teacher and the student for many reasons. Being able to give your student one hundred percent of your time and focus is extremely beneficial for their learning proccess. When working with only one student it is much easier to build rapport with the student rather then having to build rapport with a whole classroom of students. When your student is comfortable they will have a easier time learning and enjoy their lessons to a greater extent. The student will have a larger amount of time where they are able to speak and they can feel that they are involved in the lesson by discussing topics that they are interested in. Because of this the teacher is able to cater to the students interests and goals specifically. When building your lessons specifically for each student you can know that the student will be fully motivated and interested in what they are being taught. But when teaching in a larger group you may have a topic that could be of interest to some but not others. This can cause students to loose focus and enjoyment of their lessons which can slow down their learning process and can discourage the student. When dealing with one student it is much easier for the teacher to see mistakes when they first are made and correct them before it develops into a bad habit that could be hard to break later. Students being taught one to one have the benefit of being able to ask questions immediately and don’t have to worry about being embarrassed when asking a question as they could be if asking in front of multiple students in fear of looking like they are not as advanced as the other students. One to one allows the student to set the pace if learning. If they need they can have extended time to focus on a particular item that that is hard for them to grasp while in a classroom environment you may need to move on in order to keep the class running smoothly and the student could suffer by not entirely understanding. With all of the benefits that this method allows there are still some negatives that the teacher needs to watch for. Without having other students it is harder for the teacher to compare the students progress then when teaching a group. You also loose the benefit of group activities or class games that can help to break up the monotony of class work and let the students practice what they have learned in a monitored environment. No one method is the best you can argue pros and cons to all teaching methods. But it is important as a teacher to learn new techniques and always be improving, becoming more adaptable in their field. This is crucial as no two students are the same so one method is not appropriate for all students. Changing your method to what works best with your student is a great way to insure that the student will be successful in their endeavour.
